Frequently Asked Questions


  • The monthly bid packages are updated once they are released at the beginning of each month (usually around the 2nd).
  • The Category Dashboard is updated monthly after bid awards are released and contains data based on the most recent bid award.
  • The QOL Calculator is updated monthly after bid awards are released and contains data based on the last full year of bid awards.
  • The Seniority Forecast is updated monthly at the beginning of each month.
 

For the QOL and Category pages, Aircrew Edge uses each month's bid awards to calculate your seniority - so you're seeing how you actually bid against your peers in each category. We remove any non-bidding pilots from the calculation (pilots on long-term disability, mil leave, staff jobs, etc) so you see your actual bidding percentage. This can make a big difference, especially in smaller categories.


For the Seniority Forecast, Aircrew Edge uses the entire seniority list - so the forecast is inherently slightly conservative as it includes pilots on LTD, Mil-leave, etc.


Note: Since the QOL and Category seniority calculations only count pilots who are actively bidding - this leaves out pilots in Indoc who are assigned to a category on Day 1 of Indoc but who might not bid for quite a while afterwards, which can be a significant number given the pace of hiring at United.

Canceling is easy - just go to your account page and click ‘Cancel.’ You’ll retain access until the end of the month.

As a New Hire, you can access the site for free to help make your Base/Fleet decision during indoc and for four months after indoc to help make decisions about how to bid.


  • The site is probably most helpful for Day 1 of indoc, when you are asked to choose your base and fleet - many new hires will be commuting, and there is no other way to get an understanding of what life might be like on the many different options available.
  • Use Aircrew Edge to see what layovers are available, what trips are commutable, how many legs per day to expect, how many pilots are in each category, what percentage of trips have all-night flying, and lots more.

Aircrew Edge is even more helpful to a more senior pilot since a more senior pilot has more choices available in terms of Base, Fleet, and Seat:


  • If your significant other needs you to be home on the weekends, Aircrew Edge can tell you which category offers the best chance for you to get weekends off.
  • If you’re a commuter, learn which category has the most (and longest) layovers in your hometown.
